That question was answered on November 5,when the game launched on PC, bringing along many graphical improvements. Rockstar opted to include loads of graphics settings in Red Dead Redemption 2 so that players could tinker with performance and image quality. This guide will explain those settings so that you can get the most out of your time with the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Before diving headfirst into the ocean of graphics settings, check the official system requirements for the game to see how your PC stacks up. If your hardware falls closer to the minimum required configuration, you might want to stick with the lowest possible settings to ensure smooth performance. Those with higher-end PCs will have lots of room to experiment with the options Rockstar has provided. Disclaimer: Red Dead Redemption 2 is an insanely large and complex game.

It is impossible to definitively test all scenarios, so the performance and settings recommendations contained within this guide are based on our own findings. All systems vary and the game may perform better or worse depending on your exact hardware configuration. Use these recommendations as a starting point for your graphical experimentation rather than a definitive authority. Some of the available graphics options will require that the game be restarted to take effect.

This allows laptop users to specify which GPU the game will be rendered on if the laptop has integrated and discrete GPUs built-in. Designates the monitor on which the game will be displayed for users with multi-monitor configurations.

It will be greyed out if only one display is connected. The output resolution of the game to your display. We recommend always using the native resolution of your device for the best image quality.

If you want to lower resolution to increase performance, use the built-in Resolution Scaling option for the best results.

Users can force the game to output to their display at a specific refresh rate. This option is only modifiable when using exclusive fullscreen mode. For windowed and borderless window modes, the game defaults to your Windows desktop refresh rate. This setting determines if the game will run in a window, borderless window or in exclusive fullscreen mode.

This setting determines how the VSync setting operates. Triple Buffering introduces a single frame delay to ensure smooth output regardless of frame rate fluctuations below the display refresh rate. This option is used in the console versions of the game. Double Buffering eliminates the delay but will drop the frame rate to half each time it falls below the refresh rate. For example, if your PC is unable to stay at 60Hz or above, each dip down to 30Hz when Double Buffering is enabled will make the game feel stuttery.

This slider offers a way to set image quality without fussing over each individual toggle. Moving the slider all the way to the left will offer the best performance at the cost of overall image quality.

Moving the slider all the way to the right offers high image quality though individual options below may still be possible to push higher.

If you set individual options first and then use this slider, it may undo or override any alterations you made. It is best to use this slider first before changing individual settings. This setting dictates the quality of all textures in the game. The Ultra option is equivalent to the Xbox One X version of the game. This will affect how detailed textures will appear when shown at an angle to the camera.

It is most noticeable on dirt roads and other surfaces not covered in vegetation. The higher the setting, the farther away the textures will appear to be full resolution.Join us now! Forgot Your Password? Forgot your Username?

New Member. Created my account just so I could add my experience. I tried using the suggestions from Sajin and JustusLM. This is at x hz refresh rate with Acer X35 monitor, all settings at max just like what Sajin showed in his screenshots, with K 5.

Are there any in game settings I should tweak to address these problems? I'm not familiar with editing SLI bits so not sure what to edit on that end. I tried running Sajin and JustusLM's settings with the last two drivers Forgive the phone pics as screenshots, just got a new keyboard and it doesn't have the print screen button, need to map it.

Already has a mm AIO and is about as much as you're going get out of a single card. I always liked King Pin cards. I am not the OC freak. I usually settle with factory OC. I will be wasting money buying a King Pin.Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC has some issues - fixable issues - but they shouldn't distract too much from the scale of the overall achievement.

Rockstar has taken one of the most advanced game engines in the market and opened up almost every aspect of its rendering to the audience, allowing graphics enthusiasts to push already pristine visuals to a new level of precision. As always with technology that pushes boundaries, there is a cost, and the fact that a fully maxed experience is beyond most mainstream graphics hardware is causing controversy. The thing is, excellent results can be achieved on some of the most popular gaming PC hardware: it simply requires the user to accept that in many cases, low and medium settings aren't inherently bad things.

In fact, they may even present improvements over their Xbox One X equivalents. Across the week of Red Dead Redemption 2's PC launch, benchmarks have been revealed, users have tested the game on their own rigs and in some quarters, there's the belief that the game is poorly optimised because changing settings to high or ultra can cause poor performance.

However, after extensive granular analysis of the game's vast array of graphics options, what's clear is that the existing Xbox One X version - an outstanding technical achievement of this generation - is running using a mixture of settings across the board, with many of the effects actually running 'lower than low'.

Crucially, the game still impresses: PC simply adds further fidelity. The complete list can be found below, but suffice to say, Rockstar targeted the best bang for the buck on consoles and even effects that exhibit lower quality on X than on PC's lowest - volumetric resolution, for example - still look outstanding.

Plug those settings into a perfectly affordable mainstream graphics card like the AMD Radeon RX and achieving p gameplay at 60 frames per second isn't difficult. However, running at low and medium settings seems to come with a stigma for the committed PC gamer. There's the sense that only high or ultra will do, and in the case of RDR2, this can cause lower than expected performance. Is it really a 'sub-optimal' port then?

Red Dead Redemption 2 - Flickering of Bushes and Trees

In many ways, the exact opposite is true. Red Dead Redemption 2 is based on the latest version of Rockstar's Rage engine and while there are many similarities to the technology's last outing in Grand Theft Auto 5, much has evolved. For starters, the engine has transitioned away from supporting older graphics APIs and offers options for both Vulkan and DirectX At 60 frames per second on the closest we could get to console equivalent settings, the game does have significant CPU usage, but core utilisation is fairly level on both APIs - usually a good sign for the quality of a PC port.

The Vulkan API is the default and we'd suggest sticking to that. Scalability in Red Dead Redemption 2 examined, benchmarks revealed, plus a look at p60 performance on a range of mainstream GPUs. In terms of basic scalability, we started out with RTX Ti set to p resolution. Dropping from a blanket array of ultra settings without touching the advanced menu down to high, performance increased by 21 per cent, increasing to 36 per cent to medium.

From top to bottom - ultra to low - there's an increase of 53 per cent. From a resolution perspective, dropping from 4K to p adds 56 per cent of performance, rising to 93 per cent at p.

These are interesting figures, but based on our later 'real world' tests, those results are likely to be more stark on lower end kit. In common with most PC games, Red Dead Redemption 2 is best tuned to varying degrees on a per setting basis.

It lacks the option to move between ultra, high, medium or low presets on a global scale - most likely because this doesn't really make sense for the game. Instead, there's a slider that allows you to balance performance and quality. As you move the slider, the settings menu adjusts dynamically. The game is attempting to get the balance right for you - but for the user seeing a combination of medium, high and ultra settings, there's bound to be confusion.Join us now!

My guess is that, as there will be multiple samples calculated for many pixels, in some the flicker is bright, in others dark, and this averages out to a value much closer to the real one, reducing the flickering.

So thanks for the tip! It's still not perfect but certainly an improvement! FTW Member. Hello, could you be a little more descriptive about how to get this to work? I understand how to export all profiles as a text file and then alter it and import it back in via inspecter. I did that with the first profile offered.

The second one from JustusLM, I can't seem to get it to work. I tried using the tool suggested and it erased my entire profile base but did seem to import something.

It didn't work though. I know how to remove the RDR. To everyone who has gotten this to work are you using the latest Will try to get it working again shortly On my 2x Ti's as I only end up having the game either crash to the desktop or hardlocks on a black screen when using both of those profiles, I can never continue the story or even run the benchmark.

Definitely seeing it work in the menus though. When I was playing around with different settings last night the profile disappeared as well, from both nvinspector and the exported txt file. Had to reinstall the latest driver to get the RDR2 profile back. JustusLM Applacy yeah i did Did you try both profiles? I had flickering everywhere with Sajin's, but only in the snow with mine still haven't actually played yet, though, only ran the benchmark.

Applacy cyrilp JustusLM Applacy yeah i did Also i wanted to mention, how glad i am that there are so many here in this post and even getting more to work on the problem :! By sakkloteOctober 27, in Red Dead Redemption 2. Anyone else having this problem? Especially mountains and trees are flickering all the time.

At first i thought it was the snow, but apparently not. PS: I have a ps4 GB, bought shortly after release, so it's not 'new'.

Tried playing with brightness and sharpness and even color blind settings, but no effect. First and foremost, welcome to the forum sakklote. I have yet to see this problem in the game, that is very odd. First thing I would do is report this to Rockstar immediately. Knowing the game just came out, their will obviously be bugs on the first day launch patch.

Report this issue to Rockstar so they can handle it in the next patch! You need to be a member in order to leave a comment. Sign up for a new account in our community. It's easy!
